New Australian School of Advanced Medicine
The Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie University is the first medical school in Australia to be linked to a private teaching hospital on a university campus. We offer advanced sub-specialty training for doctors, particularly in surgery, and are currently accepting enrolments for Masters and PhD programs. Macquarie University Research Park at North Ryde is set to receive a new $86 million 208-bed hospital to be known as the Macquarie University Private Hospital.
The hospital will include an expanded Dalcross surgical hospital to be relocated from Killara as well as a five-storey research and development facility which has already been granted approval by Ryde City Council.
In approving the plans NSW Minister for Planning Frank Sartor yesterday said the model of integrating a private hospital with a university had been successful in the United States.

The Macquarie University Private Hospital will provide ‘state of the art’ hospital facilities with high quality care standards, as well as facilitate the delivery of health education and research on site.
The Hospital will incorporate the latest design features, providing inpatient and outpatient services, and will make a positive contribution to health services in the area. 9 March 2007 This week Macquarie University Vice-Chancellor Professor Steven Schwartz and General Manager, International Academic Programs of GE Healthcare, Bengt Nielsen signed a Letter of Intent to develop a strategic alliance for R&D collaboration between the Australian School of Advanced Medicine at Macquarie and the global healthcare subsidiary of General Electric Company.
