About Dalcross Medical Imaging

The success of advanced, modern surgery is dependent on the availability of reliable diagnostic medical imaging, subspecialisation and experienced interventional skills.

At Dalcross we offer the very best in these areas. We have invested in the latest technology, covering the following modalities:

  • General X-ray
  • Spiral CT Scanning
  • 3D Rotational Angiography
  • Fluoroscopy
  • Duplex Ultrasound (see Vascular Surgery)

Sub-Specialisation

Sub-specialisation allows the hospital to invest in the best technology and engage specialist radiology staff to provide the required service.

In spinal radiology, the hospital is fortunate to engage the experience of Dr Wally Kos, one of Australia’s leading spinal interventional radiologists.

Dalcross is the leader in the private sector in cerebrovascular radiology, led by the internationally renowned neuroradiologists from Royal North Shore Hospital. In association with Professor Michael Morgan, Cerebrovascular neurosurgeon, and other neurosurgeons, they have created a formidable team who are making the treatment of previously complex or inoperable cerebrovascular problems, safer and more commonplace.

Dalcross is the only private hospital in Australia to undertake interventional cerebrovascular radiology. The department makes no compromise on image quality. The radiology staff is part of the multidisciplinary team, which involves constant liaison between surgeons, or referring doctors and radiologists.

Sub-specialisation by the radiologist is therefore significantly beneficial to the referring agency in reporting and in undertaking interventional radiology.

Interventional Radiology

Procedures that are regularly undertaken by the Spinal Interventionalists are:

  • Myeloplasty
  • Provocative Discography
  • Chemonucleolysis
  • Epidural/ periradicular and
  • Facet joint injections
  • Annulotomy
  • Vertebroplasty

Interventional Neuroradiology is also very well developed and is the only such service available in the private sector in Australia.

The interventional neuroradiology techniques include:

  • 3D Cerebral Angiography.
  • Cerebral Aneurysm occlusion with GDC coils.
  • Cerebral vasospasm angioplasty with balloon and/ or papaverine.
  • Vertebro-basilar arterial stenosis angioplasty/ stenting.
  • Pre-operative embolisation of vascular head, neck, spinal tumours.
  • Pre-operative embolisation of AVM/ DAVF.
  • Embolisation of carotid-cavernous fistulae.
  • Test balloon occlusion of carotid/vertebral arteries pre-operatively to assess cerebrovascular collateral blood flow.
  • Thrombolysis of acutely thrombosed cerebral vessels.
